Community Adult Learning Program

 Our Purpose

The Community Adult Learning Program enables Community Adult Learning Council and Community Literacy Organizations to provide relevant and beneficial learning opportunities for Alberta that are complementary to and coordinated with other elements of the private and government-supported systems of education, training, and learning.

Our Goals

  • To improve the accessibility of learning opportunities in Alberta’s communities, especially for those individuals with special needs or barriers to learning.
  • To provide opportunities for Albertans to acquire important foundational skills such as literacy and ability in Canada's official languages.
  • To address education, training and learning gaps in Alberta’s communities.
  • To mobilize community volunteers and other resources in support of learning.
  • To contribute to solving individual and community problems through learning initiatives, in coordination and cooperation with related organizations.

 Our Organization

Community Adult Learning Councils are voluntary associations, incorporated or unincorporated, designated by Alberta Learning. They are comprised of five or more people whom individually, or as representatives of institutions or organizations, have an interest in adult education. They assume collective responsibility for the development, coordination, and delivery of community adult learning opportunities in a particular geographic area as defined by Alberta Learning.

Many of our programs are partially funded by Advanced Education & Technology and Rural Access & Innovation Project Grants. The Council recognizes and appreciates the individual and corporate partnerships that contribute to community programs.
